In the early 1970's a group of riders and friends got together and came up with a simple idea - to organise and run equestrian events for all grades of riders with the proceeds being donated to local charities.
Horse shows were held at various locations in the early years, mainly on farmland but also in the attractive setting of Chantry Park, Ipswich. As the shows increased in size, with extra classes added, they were moved to the Suffolk Showground (Trinity Park, Ipswich).
The Society also runs two sponsored rides each year, covering approximately 12 miles of mainly countryside tracks and farmland. Thanks to the permission of landowners, our rides have for many years been held from Winston Hall, Winston in the spring and the Old Hall Estate (formerly part of the Shrubland Estate) Barham, in the autumn.
Almost 50 years later, the Society has now raised in excess of £100,000.00 and helped numerous local charities including The EA Air Ambulance, EACH, St Elizabeth's Hospice, Riding for the Disabled, Macmillan Cancer Support, Woolverstone Wish, The Bumblebee Children's Charity, Street Forge Workshops and many others . See our News page for pictures and a list of the many organisations we have helped.
The current committee members have served voluntarily for many years and, with the continued generous support from sponsors and some wonderful volounteers, we have now far exceeded our £100,000 donation milestone.
