AUTUMN RIDE - Sunday, 10th September - click here for schedule
Venue: Old Hall Estate (formerly part of Shrubland Park), Barham, Ipswich, IP6 0PP
Due to warnings of high temperatures riders were given the opportunity to set off earlier from 8.30am with a shorter route of 5.5 miles and the option to ride twice to give a longer distance. On the day, the temperature remained comfortable and 33 riders enjoyed riding through the stunning grounds of Old Hall Estate with its mature woodland and shady tracks. We would like to thank the Tanner family for giving us the opportunity to ride on the park and, together with the volunteers and riders, made this event a success. With the addition of some generous donations we raised an amazing amount of over £800.00 for the EA Air Ambulance. THANK YOU!! SUMMER RIDE - Sunday, 16th July - Click here for Schedule
Venue: Park Farm, Stonham Aspal, IP14 6AS (by kind permission of the Turnbull family and Hog & Hen Farm Shop/Cafe)
Despite the forecast of rain and wind, the sun shone and we had over 30 entries who all thoroughly enjoyed the lovely "off road" farm tracks and fields. The main route was approximately 6 miles but many riders rode the route twice. This is a lovely venue with easy access off the A1120 and plenty of space to park lorries and trailers and, thanks to the generosity of our hosts, the Turnbull family, and the Hog and Hen Farm Shop/Cafe, we hope we can hold this event again next year. The ride raised £600.00 which was donated to Street Forge Workshops, Thornham Magna, during their Christmas open day on Friday, 1st December.

Autumn Ride - Sunday, 11th September - Click here for Schedule
Venue: Old Hall Estate (formerly part of Shrubland Park), Barham, Ipswich, IP6 0PP
The morning started with a magical mist over the parkland which quickly cleared into a lovely bright and warm late summer's day. Over 50 riders and their equine partners enjoyed the opportunity to ride on private tracks and farmland thanks to the kind permission of the Tanner family and surrounding land owners.
Proceeds of the ride were for Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) and, together with proceeds from our summer ride, the IHS will be sending a total of £1,375.00 to SARS. Thank you again to all riders and volunteers who made this possible.
This was also a day of remembrance for HRH Queen Elizabeth II who, throughout her life continued in her love of horses.
Summer Ride - Sunday, 17th July - Click here for Schedule
Venue: Park Farm, Stonham Aspal, IP14 6AS (by kind permission of the Turnbull family)
This was a lovely "off road" ride along farm tracks and fields with the main route being approximately 6 miles. Riders who wanted a longer distance rode the route twice, returning with lots of good feedback.
This was the first time the IHS has used Park Farm for an event and we'd like to thank the Turnbull family for their hospitality and facilities - we even had a loo!
Despite fears of excessive temperatures, the Sunday remained very comfortable with a lovely breeze on the open farmland - as a precaution the start time was brought forward for those wishing to avoid the hotter part of the day, which worked well and was very much appreciated by everyone.
Thank you to everyone who came along and we hope to see some of you at our next ride in September - details tba.
EVENTS IN 2021
Autumn Ride - Sunday, 12th September
As in previous years the IHS was given unique access to the stunning Old Hall Estate and surrounding tracks and farmland. Once again, the weather and ground conditions were perfect and the 50 riders who took part returned home with lots of smiles and nice comments. It was lovely to see some regulars and quite a few newcomers who really appreciated the relaxed atmosphere and spacious parking.
Riders had a choice of a long and short route of approximately 14 miles and 5 miles respectively, with some choosing to ride the shorter route twice to create a distance midway between the two - whichever route was chosen, everyone received a very nice rosette!
Our nominated charity was the EA Air Ambulance and we're pleased to confirm that with entry fees and donations we raised £1,100.00 for this amazing and very deserving organisation
A huge THANK YOU goes to Mr and Mrs Tanner and local landowners who kindly gave us permission to access the park and surrounding land. We also thank the volunteers who helped beforehand and on the day, and to all the riders and their four legged friends who came along and supported our event. THANK YOU!

Sadly we did not hold our Easter show at Trinity Park this year, and were unable to hold our usual Spring ride, howeve, our popular Autumn ride went ahead as usual - see below:
This started as usual from the stunning parkland of Old Hall Estate with nearly 90 entrants riding as groups and individual, leaving at intervals, with a choice of a 5 mile, or more challenging,15 mile route. As always there was lots of room for parking with some lovely shade under the ancient parkland oaks, Once again this year the weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed the routes which took them on tracks and farmland that they would not usually have access to - there were definitely lots of happy, smiley faces on all the returning riders. Thank you to everyone who took part - human and equine - and for all our volunteers for making this ride such a success. We can now confirm that the amazing sum of £1,600.00 was raised and will be donated to our nominated charity,The Injured Jockeys Fund. Our charity this year was chosen in tribute to our Vice Chairman, Roy Dale, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Click here to read the lovely Thank You letter received from The Injured Jockeys' Fund which also gives a little background to this year's nominated charity.
We would also like to say a special big THANK YOU to the Old Hall Estate and local landowners for allowing us access to their land once again this year and for giving The Ipswich Horse Society the opporunity to raise much needed funds for our nominated charities.
We always welcome feedback and if you have an idea for a fundraising event that you would like to see us organise, or a local charity you feel would benefit from our support, then please let us know.

Congratulations to Beverley Snowball who was awarded the cup for the highest amount raised by a rider. We also had a visit to the ride by Lynne Mortimer, journalist from the East Anglian Daily Times. Some of you may have read her articles, particularly her very amusing Monday page, and also heard her regular comment slots on Radio Suffolk. She came to write an article about the history of the IHS and how we have donated over £100,000 to local charities. Lynne spent a while with us, chatting to riders and taking photos.
Chris Doyle, photographer, took some lovely photos of the riders, which can be viewed by logging on to www.chrisdoylephotos.co.uk. These are available to purchase and Chris will generously donate some of the proceeds to the charity.
Finally, Wendy Simmons, our committee member who normally keeps our website updated, is unfortunately in hospital after a fall from her horse a few days before the ride, and she will be out of action for a little while. We wish her a speedy recovery. We would like to thank Jean Timms for stepping in to put this report on our website.
